I was completely ready to walk the day's 28.07 miles alone, and I must applaud Jim's complete lack of common sense; his companionship and conversation made the first 19 miles easy. At one point in mile 19 or so, I noticed that our lively discourse was the only talking that I could hear. People tend to get quiet and reflective in the last 8 miles. Steve and his glorious friends Alan, Beverly and Ramsay really made it special, providing a fabulous meeting place, a ride home, and a thermos of coffee that was oddly beer-like.
Thanks to Gary for his pictures, Ami for moleskin, Miles for nylons, and Marja for bringing us wonderful food and Pepsi in mile 15.
Mr. Steve, all ready to go at 4AM. |
